Welcome back to Room 12!

We have had a busy week 2 with student visits, a pre-school visit, and Mrs Taylor's Graduation - all thrown in with our continuous in-class learning!

Mrs Taylor wore her 'dress ups' on Thursday - she had to wear a strange hat, a black cape, and a green hood to her University of Auckland Gradation Ceremony last Friday, where she was officially given her Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Degree.

Our class roll has risen to 10, with two more students joining us next week (week 3), making a grand total of 12!

We made our own Mrs Wishy Washy's from last week's big book - they have been on display on our cloakroom art board.

This week's big book was about a hungry Greedy Cat, who eventually ends up being fed sausages!

We have been learning these Casey the Caterpillar shapes:

Open mouth.

Short stick.

We having been using our Casey 'shape' knowledge to help us write our names.  Here are some examples of our success:

We have also been working on 'resilience' and 'thinking' when attempting puzzles.  We are fortunate that our classmates are willing to lend a helping hand to each other - success!

This group of students managed to work through the alphabet from A-Z, working as a team.  Ka pai!

Tuesday was mufti "dress as an animal" day, to raise money for the Life Education Trust.  Room 12 raised $9.50.  Mrs Taylor was dressed as a dinosaur!!!  we had butterflies, dinosaurs, a turtle, stripey zebras and cheetahs arrive through our learning door!

Meet Ms McKinlay (Ms M)

Mrs Taylor has her release day on Wednesday's, and Ms M is our Wednesday teacher.  Ms M showed us the Department of Conservation "live cam" where we watched an albatross chick, named Moana, via 'live stream' come back to her nest.  It was cool!  You can check in to see how Moana is doing from your place too.

Go to www.doc.govt.nz and click on "Royal cam live stream" and there she is!

Visit from Palm Preschool: on Wednesday, we had 8 children visit us from Palm Preschool for one hour.  We did activities together and played on the playground too.  They enjoyed being at school.

We have been designing using geometric shapes - here are some of our designs:

and we have been writing our numbers.

A reminder that Scholastic book orders need to be returned by next Friday, 19 May (if you wish to buy anything from the brochure).

Ka kite ano
